Norcross, GA? Why?
A couple of years ago me and my family decided to move from TX where we were living at that time because we wanted more outside time for our children. TX is a hot state, summers are so hot that you can’t spend the whole day outside because of the heat and we didn’t what to raise our children like this.
When deciding to move, we had to wave multiple options but the truth is though my wife loves snow I can’t stand it. I had to pick something in the middle. After a few months of research on google about where is the best place for families to live in the US and asking around my friends, I was left with 3 options. Daphne, AL, Savannah GA and Bath NC |
My main criteria’s for my search were:
- Closeness to the beach
- I wanted to live in a quiet suburb not a big city but not too far from one.
- I wanted to have a history behind it
- 4-5 hours drive from the mountains.
- Family friendly
- Reasonable summer temperature that won’t pass 100F
Now how did I ended up in Norcross GA?
Norcross is not near a beach, in fact, the closest beach is a 4 hours drive but it has all the rest of criteria’s on our list.
We were having breakfast at the Old Town Country Kitchen in Bath, NC before heading out for the last day in the city to visit the local parks.
As we were waiting for our food I overheard the older couple next to us talking about their last visit to their daughter, about what nice looking park they took the grandkids too and how much fun they had at the concerts. I was so curious so I had to ask them “what was the name of this magical place they are talking about?” and then tell them we are looking for our new place to live but haven’t found it yet.
Jim, started to tell me about the concerts that take place every summer starting from May and going until the end of August in a local park and how he took his wife to dace there and then a few steps away from that park is another one that has a splash pad for kids and gazebo for them to sit and just enjoy being with the grandkids. They want to move there next year.
It sounded so good, my kids would be able to make new friend before school starts, my wife would enjoy being outside with them all day and I would not work in extreme heat or big snow all year around. YEEY,,,
Before heading back home we decided to spend 2 days in Norcross. Let me tell you we fell in love of this small city right away.
It was so peaceful, so many trees and parks for the kids. It is only 20 miles from Atlanta and close to Interstate I 285 and Buford Highway, which is good for me as I’m the towing guy and need fast access everywhere

Norcross, GA has a population somewhere between 16.000- 17.000 but is growing fast, has that old town feel was looking for and it’s full of history. Norcross is listed on the National Register of Historic Places to.
Now its been 4 years we moved here and we are still loving it. It is a family friendly city. Our favorite place is still the interactive splash pad from Lilian Webber Park and Thrasher park, downtown Norcross. We enjoy the diversity of restaurants starting with Mexican and finishing with Asian cuisine, you can find it all.
Tiny Towne and Malibu Norcross are our playgrounds when we don’t have anything planned in nature, This are not just for kids these are playgrounds for parents too if you like mini golf, arcades, go cars or just like to teach your kids how to drive before getting in a real car.

There are so many places to visit around Norcross but so far our favorite one in Hellen, GA and Stone Mountain. But we don’t have to drive a lot to have fun around here. Besides the summer concerts there is an annual Art Festival in October and a Blueberry festival, the Holiday Tour festival of homes in December is my favorite. I get to visit the houses in downtown that were restored over the years but kept the historic feel of them. The city invests in keeping the downtowns historic feel and value. Entering into some of this houses makes you feel like you went back in time…
